DISCOVERING MDINA

Mdina is located in the heart of Malta. It is a historic city with a rich history dating back over 4000 years. It may be tracked back to the Phoenician era, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

The city's name is derived from the Arabic word "medina" meaning city. During the Arab period, it served as the capital of Malta. Mdina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for historical and cultural significance. 

Some key dates and events related to Mdina's history may include:

60 A.D. Saint Paul is said to have lived there after being shipwrecked on the Island.

1048 - 1049: Remained almost uninhabited until it was resettled by a Muslim community. 
1800: The French surrendered, and Malta became a British protectorate.
1883 - 1931: Mdina was linked to Valletta by the Malta Railway. 
Present day: Mdina is one of the major tourist attractions with around 1.5 million tourists a year.
